Offers in excess of $1.6 Million

There is a sense of extraordinary spaciousness in this house.  Designed by the  artist/designer owner for her own use in collaboration with architect Eric Chase, construction was completed in 2001.

The house was built in the Scandinavian style and has a luxury of light and space.  It is flooded with light, and all the major rooms have windows on three sides. There is a Swedish sparseness and elegance to the house, and the spaces are designed to offer maximum flexibility of use.

This house boasts of being hand-crafted with its extensive use of wood.  The doors and windows were hand built in Sweden to the artist/owner's exacting specifications.  A Swedish joiner and the artist built the oak and maple cabinetry in the house.  There is a striking stairway designed by the artist with a landing where people can nap or perch on the stairs and carry on conversations.

The house has high ceilings, an iron balcony to watch for deer or children coming up the hill from the shoreline or for family and friends arriving from Boston or New York.  Beams in the Great Room on the first floor were milled from trees on the site, and the many skylights on the second floor bath the inside of the house with sun and moonlight.

Nature is part of the house, and each window provides another focus on the surrounding landscape. There is a picturesque granite outcrop in front of the house.

All systems are new from 2001.

The basement is dry, which is unique for the region.  The furnace is a high quality, energy-efficient German Budherus.

The first floor bathroom has a claw-foot tub and energy efficient washer and dryer.  The second floor bathroom has shower unit.  All floors are wood.

There is a natural feeling of warmth, serenity and welcome to this house set into the natural drama of a Deer Isle landscape.  The house was designed and built by a sculptor and is itself a kind of sculpture.  The artist views it as her largest work of art. It is a gallery to nature both inside and out.  The shoreline is a four minute walk from the house.
